Homesearch Program and Prevention Program
The Tenant Services Program helps families who are homeless or near homeless. The Homesearch Program helps homeless individuals and families locate permanent housing and move toward self-sufficiency.

The Prevention Program helps individuals maintain current housing or seek other housing options to prevent homelessness. FHAS effectively addresses the challenge of homelessness, working directly with homeless persons and local shelters, providing assessment, case management, budget counseling, housingrental and subsidy information to move homeless persons from hopelessness and despair to permanent housing and greater self-determination.

Tips Before Applying for Low Income Housing
  • 1. Research all of the different low-income housing programs available in your area. There are a variety of federal, state, and local programs that offer low-income housing assistance. Each program has its own eligibility requirements and application process, so it is important to do your research to find the program that is right for you.
  • 2. Get all of your documentation in order: When you apply for low income housing, you will need to provide documentation of your income, assets, and household composition. This documentation may include tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, and birth certificates.
  • 3. Be careful and accurate on all information provided: Any false or misleading information on your application will most likely result in your disqualification.
  • 4. Waiting Lists: The waiting lists for most, if not all low-income housing programs is long. Do not limit yourself to only apply to one apartment location.

Qualifications: Do you qualify to live here?
To qualify for low income housing in Nebraska, you must meet the following income requirements:

Your household income must be below 80% of the area median income (AMI). The AMI is updated annually by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and varies by county.

You must have a valid Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

You must be a U.S. citizen or a legal immigrant.

In addition to the income requirements, you may also need to meet other eligibility requirements, such as:

- You must not have been evicted from any public housing or Section 8 housing in the past three years.
- You must not have any outstanding felony convictions for drug-related offenses.
- You must not be a registered sex offender.

    Hi im currently homeless with 3 kids. I was recently evicted from southside terrace they were reevaluating my income with my rent being $425. Since march 2019 i had some issues with my checking account so i fell behind in july and the made. E appt reevaluate my income at end of sept then somehow she figured it higher then previous and so she sent it to main office to be determined i got a letter at the end of nov stating my rent was $208. 00 and they had already taking me to court judgement placed... Never got a paper 1 stating i was being sued nor did anyone tell me what i owe them.
