The Conner House provides twenty-four (24) one-bedroom apartments in a two-story elevator building on the southeast side of Indianapolis. Built as an care free living community, it was the citys first residential community dedicated solely to individuals with HIV/AIDS. Jointly sponsored by The Damien Center and St. Phillips Episcopal Church, it is owned by a not-for-profit corporation with its own Board of Directors. Conner House was developed as a Section 811 property and funded through HUDs Capital Advance Program with a Project Rental Assistance Contract (PRAC) to make it affordable to very-low income residents.
Four (4) of the apartments are fully handicapped-accessible. All of the apartments are carpeted, have individually-controlled heating and air-conditioning, equipped kitchens, emergency pull cords, and an intercom/access system for visitor screening. All utilities are included in the rent. A laundry room is located on the first floor. The lounge has a full kitchen and is used for meetings, dinners, and parties. Just outside the lounge is the patio for entertainment or just to catch some rays. Residents also enjoy the small lake just a short walk from the building on the Conner House property.
Referrals to the building are made by the care coordinators of the Damien Center and other HIV Care Agencies, who provide a wide range of support services to the residents.
