Capitol House Low Income Apartments for Seniors is a HUD Apartment. HUD residents usually pay 30% of their gross income for rent. The rent amount, less approved HUD deductions such as medical and child care expenses, and other allowances, includes a utility allowance. HUD Residents also may choose to pay what is known as flat rent. The HACC works with applicants to determine which rent arrangement is best for them.

Capitol House Apartments is a 6 story high rise 81 unit affordable housing community for low income seniors subsidized by the federal governments HUD (Housing and Urban Development Division).

CHA is a nonprofit organization contracted with HUD as a Section 8 Housing Project. 

They house people that are 62 years and older with a low income and people with a disability.

Rent is calculated at 30% of one's gross adjusted income.

The gross part is the money coming in every month and the adjusted part is the out of pocket money spent on medical costs not covered by health insurance. The 30% is calculated by subtracting out of pocket medical from  gross income.

  • All apartments are 510 square feet with one bedroom, one bath, and a combination kitchenette and living room
  • There is a laundry room on every floor
  • There is a community room and a mail room on the main floor

You must be a U.S. citizen or a legal immigrant.

In addition to the income requirements, you may also need to meet other eligibility requirements, such as:

- You must not have been evicted from any public housing or Section 8 housing in the past three years.
- You must not have any outstanding felony convictions for drug-related offenses.
- You must not be a registered sex offender.
